How to install a pop-up window that only pops up
when visitors leave your website!

The aim is to put an invisible frame around your website. (For the purpose of this article we'll call it the 'main frame')

Your visitors won't see any scrollbars or frame windows that distract them. You can also put an invisible frame around your framed homepage if you're already using frames on your website.

The purpose of the main frame is to allow visitors to navigate around your site without popping up a new window. As soon as the main frame unloads it will trigger a script that activates the pop-up window.

The main frame will only unload when a user leaves your website by clicking on an external link. The pop-up window is triggered when visitors close their browser while your site is loaded in the main window.

Step 1
Copy the code below and save it as your default entry page. (Eg default.asp or default.htm)

Step 2
Find the following line in the code and change the parameters as indicated:

<frameset framespacing="0" border="0" rows="100%,*" frameborder="0" onUnload="doExitPop('myProductName', 'myUSERID', 'myProductCategory', 'myProductURL', 'mySalesMessage')">

WHERE:

myProductName  - The name of your website
myUserID
  - The userID that you use to login to 24spy.com
myProductCategory
- The category under which your website will be listed

myProductURL
- the URL of your website

mySalesMessage
- The message that will be displayed in the pop-up window. If you leave this parameter blank a 24spy message will be displayed. Take a look at our  message and write something similar.

Step 3
Find the following line in the code and change 'myWebsiteURL' to your website's URL:

<frame name="main" target="footnotes" scrolling="auto" noresize src="myWebsiteURL">

(If you open this page and you only see a white blank page it is because the URL you entered is incorrect. Sometimes the / character at the end is included and sometimes not - experiment to see what works for you. e.g. http://www.mydomain.com/)

Note: The pop-up window and frame page will only find the 24spy feedback page if you're connected to the Internet. Make sure you are connected before you try to test.

That's all there is.

An example of how this should work can be viewed here. When the page opens in a new window, close it again and you will see how the feedback window pops up.
